Suck 这个字在美国用的很多，它就是指很烂、很差的意思。Suck 是一个动词，所以在使用上跟“烂”这个形容词是不太一样的。例如你可以说，That traffic here really sucks! 就是说这里的交通糟透了的意思。有时也听得到人家用 suck 的形容词 sucky。例如有一次我室友的女朋友先是车子抛锚，然后又下起大雨，更糟的是她还找不到电话可以求救。所以她那天一来我们这，就说了一句，Today is very sucky, everything sucks.
Suck 这个字的原意是指用嘴巴吸的意思，所以有人就设计了这么一个吸果冻的比赛。规则很简单，就是不能用手，只能用嘴巴把果冻吸光。所以比赛一开始，只听到观众大喊，Hey, you suck! 表面上听来是说，你快点吸的意思，事实上则是暗地里骂人烂的意思。

在这个句子中，动词take表示的是“接受不好的事情”（accept something unpleasant）。在非正式的口语表达中，也可以用词组“take sth. lying down”（to submit to harsh treatment with no resistance）替换动词take。

might (just) as well: （通常用于口语）用来建议做并不是太想做的事情，由于没有更好的选择、又只能如此（used to suggest doing something that you do not really want to do, because you have no better ideas.）。这个搭配的表达有点像汉语中的让步状语从句，经常会在翻译中加上“既然”“反正”之类的词加强相应的语气。
例句：You'll need a new suit at Spring Festival anyway, you might as well have it now.
反正你春节也得添一套新衣服，还是现在添了吧。
Since Jack wouldn't take up the job, we might as well ask Richard to do it.
既然杰克不愿意承担这个任务，我们只好请理查德来干了。

“打领带”，比较常用的表达就是“arrange one's tie”。Tie作为动词，多用于“系、绑、打结”之类的含义，当tie作为名词，使用“领带、领结”的意思的时候，就需要动词arrange的配合了。
